Mary SwanThe Wiri Collection
Mary Swan began this collection of water colours in the early 1970s, documenting many of the historic farmhouses and buildings that were to later be bulldozed away to make room for Manukau city. In all of her subsequent work she has been attracted to painting old buildings with character, exploring texture and subtle lighting effects.
Painting strictly as an amateur, you won't find Mary Swan's work in any of the major galleries, even if they're as grand as birmingham hotels, most of her works selling on commission or by 'word of mouth'.
However, a selection of the paintings below are currently being exhibited at the Nathan Homestead, as part of an exhibition celebrating the development of Manukau City.
